Maxon Licensing
License render farm nodes
The license settings are saved for each user on a machine.
And if RR is running as background service, then it might be running as a different user than the artist logged in.
Cinema 4D
You have 2 options to license Cinema4D:
- EITHER login on each machine with the RR service user you specified in rrWorkstationInstaller.
Open a command prompt and start the Commandline.exe in your MAXON C4D folder.
Please enter your credentials there.
Note: Cinema4D.exe and Commandline.exe have separated license config files. - OR you can edit the file [RR]\render_apps\_setenv\all\cinema 4d__inhouse.rrEnv and specify your license settings there.
There are two possible settings you have to change depending on your license type: - EITHER uncomment the line LicenseFlags and set your local floating license server
- OR uncomment the lines g_licenseusername and g_licensepassword and set your MAXON login details.
- You might neeed to change the license release options in the rrEnv file as well.

Redshift
.
Note: The subscription license requires a local "Red Giant" service to be running.
It should be installed with the MAXON app.
Or you install the "Red Giant" service only (See 2.7 below).
You have 2 options to license Redshift:
- EITHER login on each machine with the RR service user you specified in rrWorkstationInstaller.
Then open the MAXON app.
Please enter your credentials there. - OR use a batch script to setup the credentials.
Please follow these steps: - Please take a look at the files RR\sub\misc\MAXON_License_reg.bat/.sh
Edit the file to add your login data. - Start the rrSubmitter and load the file maxon_license_login.bat (windows) or .sh (linux)
- Assign the machines that have the maxon app/license service installed
- Change the renderer at the bottom to "OnceEachClient"
- Submit the job
- Wait until some Clients executed the job.
- Check the render log files.
If you notice that the Red Giant Service nor the the mx1 application is installed and you do not want to install the MAXON app,
then follow the steps on this linkto get the unzipped/extracted installer. (Or rename the installer to .zip and extract it)
https://support.maxon.net/hc/en-us/articles/4687177301788-Running-Scripted-Installers
After you extracted it, edit MAXON_License_reg again to uncomment the install lines.
Reset the job.
Assign MAXON Licenses to MAXON logins
Note that you can use the same user for multiple licenses on multiple machines.
But there is a bug within the C4D licensing. (Perhaps fixed now)
It does not work if your login has access to commandline and UI licenses.
It sometimes took UI licenses first.
But you can create a new account and assign the Commandline licenses only.
For this you have to login at MAXON, then create a group for each license type and at last assign this license group to a new login that you have created.
Then use this new login for the render farm.
